Drawing Tighnari from Genshin Impact

Hello and welcome to this week’s post!!

I’d like to apologize for not posting last week. I was on vacation for a couple of days.

Today I’m drawing Tighnari from Genshin Impact!!

Tighnari is a new character that just recently came out on Genshin Impact. I really like his design, and I thought it was time to finally draw him. In a new version of the game, Dendro (Leaf) characters were released, and Tighnari was one of those characters.

Tighnari is from a region called Sumeru. It’s got a lot of trees and, uh, green stuff…

Anyway, let’s jump right into the drawing process!

Drawing Process

For this whole thing, I was color picking from a drawing of Tighnari in the upper right corner of the piece.

First, I sketched out what pose I wanted Tighnari to be in. I settled on my usual peace sign thingy, and then lowered the opacity of that layer so that I could move into line art. Tighnari’s outfit is amazingly complicated and took an amazingly long time to draw. I struggled quite a bit in drawing all the complex details on his shirt! I understand that most people don’t draw all the details, but I wanted to challenge myself, so I put a lot of effort into this.

My style of anime is very painterly, usually involving uber-thick-line art. However, I made an effort to draw with line art that’s a little thinner than usual. I was planning to go all out on the coloring this time, so thinner line art made the coloring stand out more.

Onto the coloring!

I used a customized paint brush from Procreate as well as an airbrush from Rossdraws’ brush pack that I reviewed a while ago. (https://drawingwithchong.com/trying-out-rossdraws-new-brush-set/) Like I said before, I went very painterly with this one. Procreate has a very handy tool that’s kind of like a lasso tool in other programs. I used that a lot to select areas of Tighnari’s clothing and then used an airbrush/paintbrush to shade that. When the area is selected, you can’t affect anything other than what is inside the area. For example:

If I have an area selected, I can’t erase or draw over anything other than what’s selected. This makes my drawing process simpler and is a time-saving technique. I made Tighnari’s hair fluffier and less flat-looking. I also added a lot of greenish-bluish highlights to his hair.

I don’t really have anything else to say, so I’ll just give you the finished result.

THE FINISHED RESULT!!!

I’ll end this with my usual phrase: I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I enjoyed making it for you! Peace
