2 illustration fan art challenge
Hello everyone!
Today I will be drawing fanart of art from two different Youtubers: RossDraws and Love2DrawManga. I have been wanting to make fanart of these people for so long, so I was really excited to get started working on this!
RossDraws
First I decided I would draw fanart of RossDraw’s character Faye from his series called Nima.
I just love Faye’s hairstyle, and I couldn’t wait to draw her!
Because of my style change, my sketch is now also my lineart, so I am constantly erasing bits of the sketch to make it less messy. I was having extreme struggle drawing Faye’s face, like her eyes, nose, and mouth, and after about an hour of trying to fix it, I ended up just giving up and moving on to drawing Faye’s hair and clothes.
I think that Faye’s cape-thingy looks really cool on her and is very creative, and I enjoyed drawing that. I’ll go more into Faye’s outfit later, though, when I get to the coloring part. For now, though, I just clean up the sketch a bit and erase things here and there.
When coloring, I was using Procreate’s paint brushes and airbrushes and I was constantly switching colors to give the drawing a more realistic feel to it. When I colored Faye’s skin, I was using the same shading and light source that RossDraws had used. For her hair, I kept switching colors from light pinks to hot pinks to reds to white.
When it came to coloring Faye’s clothes, I noticed that some areas of the cape had shading colors that were more blue, whereas other areas such as the shirt had shading colors that were close to a red gray. I also almost missed the symbol on the side of Faye’s cape, but I’m glad that I remembered it and drew it in.
Then, I used airbrushes and paint splatter brushes to draw the background.
Finally I noticed that in the drawing there is a sliver of magic around Faye, so I use a brush from Procreate to draw it.
Love2DrawManga
Next, I choose an illustration from Love2DrawManga to draw. I chose one of the illustration she drew of a viewer’s original character because I thought it was cute.
I absolutely love her hair and the pastel tones. Overall, she just looks really cute, and I could not wait to draw her!
For the sketch I used the HB Pencil from Procreate. I kept erasing the nose and redrawing it over and over to try to make it look okay, and I think I did an okay job with that. It took me a long time to draw the hair, and I kept having to adjust the stabilization of the brush, but I think the end result turned out well.
Next I color her. I remembered to use different hues on her hair like I saw in RossDraws’s drawing in order to make the drawing more realistic, and I used some gradients, too. I use reddish tones, orangeish tones, and even some pinkish tones to color her hair. I really loved the character’s green eyes and how they just popped to me because of how vivid they were, and I tried to incorporate some of that pop into my drawing. At this pointo in the process I am still constantly erasing the sketch to make it less messy as well.
For the boba tea I kind of just winged it and did whatever I wanted. I don’t think the boba I drew resembles boba at all, but I was very tired at this point, so I didn’t really give it another thought and I just shaded the character’s clothes, drew the background, and finished.
I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I did drawing for it! Comment if there’s anything in specific you want me to draw or teach!
(Unfortunately I could not find the video for the second drawing, but if I can I will add it to this post as soon as I can!)
